Drink N Scrawl a mellow writing event

The summer’s first Drink N Scrawl was held at the Mellow Mushroom on Airport Blvd. this past Saturday. Around a dozen guild members attended. (For pictures, see our Facebook page.)

Mavis Jarrell was even inspired to write another installment for her epic “Shroomville.”

Here it is:

Shroomville Fly’s Wagon

(part III of the sequel)
(Mavis Jarrell, 6/18/11)

Shroomville Fly. Hello old friend.
We writers came by to
share our spirits –
both drink and soul.

You zig and zag
from glass to glass.
Not like Ms Social Butterfly,
your competition on the walls.

Her colorful pallet splashes
the room with
free-spirit flight
to cheer our minds.

Instead, you buzz here,
alight there,
hear a word, then
speed away – unobserved.

Like a messenger
on a secret mission,
your wagon follows –
filled with words.

You drop one near a writer
who grasps – stores – flings
it through the air as
a thought – story – poem.

We writers talk of
a mythical Muse
who fills our vessel with
ideas to motivate – create.

Fly, your arthropod eyes see much.
When you land on a head with
your wagon of words,
are you a Muse?

Our next Drink N Scrawl is July July 23 at Oakleigh from 3-5 p.m.
